Mike Bowles joined the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) in Tajikistan in 2005, to design and pilot a community-owned Micro Lending Organization (MLO), which today operates countrywide. From 2006 to 2008, he was AKF’s Grants Manager and lead on AKF’s Tajik-Afghan cross border trade activities. From 2009 to 2011, Mike joined AKF Canada as Program Manager for economic projects in Central Asia and the Middle East. In 2012, he joined AKF’s global program team in Geneva, Switzerland, as global advisor on economic inclusion, and lead on small enterprise acceleration and impact investing in coordination with the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED). Since 2015, jointly with AKFED, he has led the design and build-out of Accelerate Prosperity in Central and South Asia: an investment-led business accelerator offering tailored investment capital and mentorship. Prior to AKF, Mike worked with the World Bank’s International Program for Development Evaluation Training (IPDET) and the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute in India. He holds an M.A. in Political Science and International Development from the University of Guelph (2004), and a BPAPM degree with a minor in Economics from Carleton University (2001).
